I have been using another ip cam for baby watching and surveillance since 2012. The camera still works fine, with motion detection, night vision, and so on, but the only complaint is the 640×480 picture quality. HD video are all over the place nowadays and I have been thinking of upgrading my ip cam for a while. Finally, I got this Creaker HD camera. It came with a pretty nice, Apple style box, a camera, power cord, wifi antenna, Ethernet cable. It is fairly easy to figure out how to assemble them. To set up the camera, you will need to do the following

    1. Connect the camera to your router.
    2. Power on the camera for about 1min.
    3. Download “mipc” APP on your phone or tablet. Or, which was not mentioned in the manual, if you know what ip your router assigns to the camera, just use any web browser (under the same WLAN) to connect to that ip.
    4. Enter user id and password (default password is admin)
    5. Setup the wifi info (unless you want to use Ethernet cable all the time)
After step 5, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable and configure everything else your camera over wifi.

Setting up the camera requires some work and may not be straightforward for some people, especially the manual is not very clear. Also, the app is not very stable sometimes. In my first set up, my app just didn’t work at all, it can not find my camera, and that is why I ended up with using web browser to set up the camera.

Let me first talk about some features I like about this camera.
    1. It supports micro SD card (up to 32 GB) for video recording. You can schedule the recording for some time slots or just do 24/7 recording. It takes about 500-600MB per hour of recording. I am testing with a 8GB SD card for a 24/7 recording and it has been about 12hours now and there is still more than 1GB of free space. I would like to see what happen if the card is full. It would be great if it can just overwrite the oldest video with the new one. I don’t see this info on the manual or product description.
    2. Through the App you can also do recording and save it on your mobile device. It will just take the memory of the mobile device, not on the camera SD card.
    3. Built in speaker with pretty good sound quality. My old camera also has two way voice but you need to plug in an external speaker to hear the sound.
    4. Auto recording along with motion detected. You can choose to enable recording when there is a motion detected (with SD card plugged in). This is a nice feature for surveillance camera. It is always good to record a short clip if it really spots some one breaks into your house. It would be much clear and more informative than just snapshots.

About something I don’t like (mostly on the software)
    1. There is no way to delete the snapshots and videos stored on the camera from the app. The only way I can find out is to reset the camera to factory settings. It doesn’t make any sense to me that I can not choose delete some of the videos but all.
    2. The funny thing about the option in “restore to factory settings” in the app is, it just kill all the videos and snapshots. It does not really reset all those camera configurations. For instance, all my wifi settings are still there and my time zone setting are still kept after so called in “restore to factory settings”. I am not sure how I can really reset everything from the app.
    3. There is no option for user to use its own Dynamic DNS service. I believe many people don’t care, and maybe people even feel great that they can use the app to access their ip cam when they are outside. But, that means the ip cam is using some unknown dynamic DNS service which is outside your control. Your ip cam is transmitting information to some unknown server which I don’t know if I should trust. I would prefer to disable this default dyn DNS feature and choose the dyn DNS company that I trust.
    4. There is no way to change the user id. The default user id is super long random letters and it can hardly be remembered. If you have multiple mobile device, you will need to use this id to log in fro the app. Then you will have to dig up this long id from the box since you will not remember.
    5. There are three indicator lights at the front of the camera and two of them are blinking when in use. You can not turn it off (at least I don’t find any place to turn it off) and it is very annoying to me. If you want to use it as a baby watching cam, it would disturb baby’s sleep in a dark room. Also I don’t really want baby to look at those blinking lights which I am sure they will.
    6. The video playback in the app is very dumb, there is no place for you to fast forward. The only thing you can do is watching the whole video.
    7. The video quality is just ok. Given that it says “HD” I would expect a even better quality.
    8. It is not compatible with other existing ip cam app…

Finally, I can stop worrying about my baby at night, October 16, 2015

We have a 2 year old with a serious heart condition. He’s not currently on oxygen but we worry about him at night in his room. I was offered this baby monitor in exchange for my honest review and I accepted, excited to finally be able to check on him in the middle of the night without getting out of bed and accidentally waking him up. Here’s what I think.

    Pros:
+ Setup was relatively easy but there were 1 or 2 times I got stuck. Here are a couple important things you need to know for setup. You need to plug the camera into your router using the provided network cable for setup. During setup you’ll configure it to use your wifi and from then on it doesn’t need to be plugged into your router. The initial password for the baby monitor is printed on the side of the box, mine was “admin”. If you unplug the baby monitor and then plug it in somewhere else it will take about 1 minute for it to connect to the wifi. Just watch the lights on the front until the left one turns green.
+ It takes a micro SD card and will record pictures and video of movement. You can adjust how sensitive the camera is of movement during the night and day
+ There are several different video resolution settings you can choose. The highest resolution is 720p.
+ It records in color during the day and at night it’s in black and white. Night mode actually works surprisingly well.
+ You can watch the camera with your android or apple phone or from a web browser. The app lets you drag your finger across the screen to move the head of the camera left, right, up and down. It also has a 4x zoom.
+ The package comes with a bracket in case you want to hang it outside.

    Cons:
Not sure. It works fantastically well. I guess the picture quality could be 1080p but I think 720p is good enough for me.
    – It’s a little pricey but well worth it in my opinion.

Overall I’m really happy with this baby monitor. It was easy to setup and does exactly what I want. 5 stars, highly recommended.

The best! We bought two of these. One for my home for when my elderly mother stays with me and one for my mothers home. These cameras are just perfect. No problems and great picture. They work flawlessly. The only problem is with the app for the camera. It needs work and freezes at times. It has stopped a few times with error message. The only reason for 4 star is the app.
