The price you see is not your final cost of making it work, May 15, 2015

This review took longer to write than I expected. The buyer needs to be extremely clear in understanding that when they buy this system it is NOT a complete turnkey ready-to-go system. Most of what you need is in the box however one critical key component is optional (i.e. not included) and that is the hard drive. Without it you a limited to watching what the cameras see “live” but you get no ability to record anything for evidence later. That brings up a reviewing dilemma … should the lack of a hard drive be cause to down rate this model because (compared to other brands) Sannce stands in a lonely corner of the room by not including it. Another similar system at Amazon includes a 500GB hard drive and costs only $20 more. Or, not including a hard drive might be thought of as a positive, that you get the opportunity to choose the brand and model you want, open the system’s case and try to install it yourself? If you are handy with electronics that may be a good option. If you are looking for a system that is plug & play, you may end up frustrated. For me it was particularly frustrating because the best suited hard drive for me doubled in price right after I received the system so I couldn’t test it until I was able to find one cheaper. Note that I received this system for evaluation, but it is no different than what you would buy at this Amazon page. And getting an evaluation unit brought no special privileges, either for me or the seller.

I did extensive testing previously on two other similar systems, one from a familiar brand name sold at Amazon and another from a name that is well-known to customers who are members of the big warehouse membership price club. There are so many similarities I often felt they were all made in the same factory. That is a plus for Sannce … that means they are playing in a field with some well-known players.

Setup (other than installing your own hard drive) is a matter of plugging everything together. The included user manual is not very helpful but with a little technical skill much of it is intuitive. The cameras are pretty good (for the price) but not the highest resolution ones available. Daytime vision is crisp and reasonably clear, and nighttime vision is good for about 50’, falling off after that. You probably won’t be able to read a license plate at night further than 50’ away.

The setup menus are plentiful, so much so that you may spend a couple of hours of trial and error learning the basics. Again the user manual isn’t that helpful. You will be many steps ahead if you have owned/used a similar video security system previously.

The included accessories are adequate. You do not need a fancy mouse for a video security system and the one included is by no means fancy. You do need to supply your own monitor, but very few low-priced systems include a monitor. You don’t need an expensive one. Hint – I picked one up at Goodwill for $10 that is perfectly fine to use with a security system.

The bottom line is that you get what you pay for and this system is certainly at rock bottom for price. Other models from Sannce listed here at Amazon do include a pre-installed hard drive and don’t cost that much more, making them a better value than this model.

Because it is a good economy value if you already own your own hard drive and monitor it earns a decent rating. Because the cameras are slightly lower quality than similarly priced systems, because adding a hard drive is an extra expense and becomes a do-it-yourself project, and because the after sale support isn’t quite as clearly defined as a major brand name it earns a rating of “I Like It”, which Amazon defines as 4-stars. A good buy.

If you are shopping for a video security system for the first time, this system is a great place to start. It’s priced a bit cheaper than most, but still has many of the bells and whistles that others have at a greater price. The nice thing is you can build upon this later on if you decide it will be useful to you. It includes only four cameras and no hard drive, but it is expandable up to eight cameras and you can add a 1TB internal hard drive to it if you see fit. Without the hard drive, you obviously can’t expect it to save footage, but it could still be useful when connected to a display device to monitor camera feeds in real time.

The cameras themselves seem to be of decent quality. They feel sturdy and are made of a nice heavy metal, and should be able to resist some moderate weather. There are small screws you can use to adjust the cameras’ aim and positioning when mounting.

For video out from the main unit, you can use standard VGA analog out, or use the digital HDMI out, which I prefer. In the unit settings, you can adjust the output resolution to various standard resolutions to match the display device’s capabilities. You also have 2 USB inputs on the back and 1 USB input on the front. These allow you to expand the storage or connect the included USB mouse (or most any other USB mouse if you’d rather). It also has the 8 video inputs and 1 video output.

The interface is pretty intuitive to navigate. To first login, the default username is admin with no password. From there, you can adjust all kinds of settings. Not all of them are immediately available to use depending on if you have a hard drive installed, or cameras that support additional features like PTZ, but most any basic feature you’d expect on a newish surveillance system, you’ll have covered.

As you can see in my video, the only issue I had setting this up was getting the mobile app working. You scan a QR code to be taken to a URL and download the app, which I did. But once I installed the app and clicked “register account”, it would just get stuck on “waiting” indefinitely. I attempted this on three separate devices multiple times and had no luck. Worth noting if the app is important for you.

Other than the mobile app, everything was easy to set up and works very well. Video quality is a far cry from HD, but still pretty decent for what you’re paying here. You get plenty of features out of the box, and between HDDs and additional cameras, this system gives you room to grow. I would give this package a good 4.5 stars.

Outdoor cameras as long as it doesn’t rain where you live., January 10, 2015

Just seems OK to me. Software is horrible. Camera video quality is just OK. One BLARING fact about it (indoor/outdoor) cameras. The camera manual says ‘do not expose to rain’. I don’t know about you but the last time I checked it rains outdoors. ..
