    Good:
–This camera provides good functions for the cost: swivels and focuses remotely, has a mic and speaker, night vision, zoom, alarm and alert.
–Set up using your smart phone is really easy.
    –Picture quality is very good.

    Bad:
–Hire a technical writer, Amcrest! The documentation is absolutely horrible. There are too many different logins and passwords, which gets very confusing when you’re trying to log into the camera remotely. There is no explanation of the icons in the material in the package; you have to go searching for that online. The icons are not intuitive. Hire a technical writer who can communicate instructors to a public audience!
–The Web-enabled viewing system drops constantly. It requires you to log in all the time, and sometimes it won’t log in at all. There are several ways to access your camera remotely and the ONLY way the tech help and I could figure out how to do it was through the company’s web system, which is, well, just really spotty.
–The company doesn’t understand the variety of knowledge that consumers bring to the task of remote setup. Some people “talk the talk,” and can communicate in the jargon of the tech help people. Others need to be led through the process. Taking control of someone’s screen is a little unsettling, frankly, though I can see why it’s easier than doing things verbally over the phone.
–Amcrest, provide better videos for basic setup and especially for the remote Web setup. The videos are not labeled well and are for different products.

    Ugly:
–Setup for remote viewing on a laptop or remote computer (via Web) was a nightmare: three calls of 40 minutes each. There has to be an easier way to set up viewing on a remote computer (this is what most people want to use the camera for: to be somewhere else, like their office, and log on to see their home. But setup for this is a maze of confusion).

    Oustanding product!

I have installed 7 cameras over the past week and they are working flawlessly. I was able to install each additional camera in 8 minutes each, and have tested my ability to view them on my iPhone under all conditions. They have worked perfectly.
I have worked with many cameras on the market and believe that Amcrest has produced the best set of capabilities, ease of installation and reliability that I have found anywhere. I am running both wired and wireless simultaneously, again without any flaw.
I also worked with their customer support and they have been responsive and helpful each time.
I am a tough grader, but I give them ***** 5 stars without hesitation.

My other IP camera is a Sharx bullet style camera, the “WIDE” version; I am very, very happy with that camera. Whereas the ProHD has a different sort of application in mind, its feature set compares well, though not exactly, to the Sharx. I wanted a reliable camera for indoor use, and am willing to pay a little extra for it (you can find many small IP cameras in the $50 price range). The ProHD offered the features I wanted, and more.

For the price, the ProHD offers a more extensive feature set than other IP cameras in the $100 price range (I realize the ProHD is slightly more than $100 — I got it here for $119). Like many IP cameras in this price range, the ProHD offers cloud recording and remote viewing. However, the ProHD also offers LAN (e.g., to a NAS) and onboard recording, which are features not frequently found in this price range. Add night vision, two-way audio, email alerts, and PTZ support, and the ProHD is in my opinion a very good value. I’d also say that were Amcrest to remove PTZ support but lower the price to $100 or less and shrink the form factor that they’d have another compelling product offering.

The ProHD has an API! I was surprised to find a document on Amcrest’s support site describing how to interface with the ProHD through HTTP requests. There’s also an Amcrest mobile app, a Mac-specific “Surveillance Pro” app (don’t know about Windows), and I was able to get the camera working with IP Cam Viewer Pro on my iPhone and iPad, though not without some trial and error.

On the downside, I was hoping for a simple web interface like the Sharx offers, to be able to view the camera directly in the browser. Unfortunately, when using Chrome you are required to install a Chrome app in order to view and control the camera. Thankfully, you can instead use one of the mobile apps or the Mac app. And for those curious, there is not IFTTT support, though their mobile app can trigger its own alerts, and you could maybe cobble something together with email alerts and the API to get something working with IFTTT.
